The Police spokesman in Enugu, Ebere Amarizu who confirmed the story said "the suspect disclosed that he killed his elder brother who had been sick because he could no longer bear the cost of his treatment".

Reports state Osman changed her story about being hit by authorities, and a friend police contacted stated off the record that she did not believe Osman was hit with a brick.
In his defence, the son of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, through his Instagram Story, said the police officer tried to kill him but he would not press charges.
