After the self-inflicted demise of another national team manager, the Arsène Wenger for England bandwagon is once again up and running. And frankly, any England supporter watching this encounter would be thrilled to have the Arsenal manager in charge of their team.
At times here Wenger's Arsenal were simply majestic. Passing and moving with real menace, they inflicted only the second defeat Basel have suffered in twelve Champions League encounters with English clubs. And at the heart of the onslaught was an Englishman, albeit one deemed not fit for duty in the summer debacle in France.
My Theo Walcott was good here. Where once he was a cameo blur of aimless running, this season there is an end product to all that fizz and dash. Against opponents at times befuddled by his speed, he scored both Arsenal goals in this most comfortable of wins.
