A formidable start from Real Madrid's attacking trident was the key to victory at the Santiago Bernabeu, as Zinedine Zidane's side destroyed Sporting Gijon 5-1.

The Frenchman saw his men score five goals for the second game running since he took over from Rafael Benitez, although injuries to Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema might dampen his joy.

Bale opened the scoring with a header before Cristiano Ronaldo struck twice and Benzema was also on target to put Madrid 4-0 up after just 18 minutes.

Benzema added another before half time, and Isma's strike in the second half was scant consolation for the outclassed visitors.
