You can be a top manager and not win trophies - Guardiola speaks on Pochettino

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, has said Mauricio Pochettino is an "excellent manager", despite not winning as many trophies as some of his colleagues.

Pochettino, who is the current manager of Paris Saint-Germain, has been linked with the Manchester United job following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's departure.

But his current focus is on City, who they face in the Champions League at the Etihad on Wednesday.

Before taking charge at PSG, Pochettino had a successful stint with Spurs, but he failed to win any trophies with the Premier League and his title bid in France fell short last season.

"I'm pretty sure the managers get better. Every season we go through, you have a lot of learnings, and I'm pretty sure he's an excellent manager.

"You can be a top manager and not win titles. The managers that have the chance to win the titles are at top, top clubs with good investments and exceptional players.

"Otherwise, for managers, it is impossible to win.

"That doesn't mean the managers in the Championship or not in the top six of the Premier League cannot be excellent managers in tactics, communication, leading.

"It's not necessary to win titles," Guardiola told a press conference on Tuesday.
