EPL: Real reason I left Chelsea - Kurt Zouma

West Ham United defender, Kurt Zouma, has revealed the real reason why he left Chelsea this year to join the Hammers.

Zouma said he left Chelsea for West Ham because he wanted a different challenge.

The centre-back joined Chelsea in the summer of 2014 under Jose Mourinho's regime.

He hardly cements his place in the heart of Chelsea's defence under a succession of managers.

The 26-year-old spent time out on loan at the likes of Stoke City, Saint-Etienne and Everton in a bid to get his career back on track.

Zouma had started to make significant progress under former Blues manager, Frank Lampard, but after he was sacked in January, the France international struggled to win the faith of Thomas Tuchel.

He was left out of the team which won the Champions League at the end of last season.

Explaining his decision to exit Chelsea, Zouma told the Evening Standard: "I wanted something different. A challenge. We won a title last year with Chelsea and I wasn't in the starting XI at the end. I wanted to be somewhere where I could compete for that, playing week in, week out.

"Things happen. It is destiny. A new manager came in and he made choices and everything was working well for us. I wasn't in the starting XI as often as I would expect to be. This is the manager's choice and he made them right, obviously. As a player, I have to accept it. This is in the past."
