Manchester United set to offer Paul Pogba £400,000-a-week deal to make him Premier League's best paid player

Paul Pogba will be offered wages of around £400,000-a-week by Manchester United, with the club hopeful that the lure of becoming the Premier League's best paid player will be enough to convince the Frenchman to stay at Old Trafford.

The 28-year-old has 12 months remaining on his deal at Old Trafford and club bosses fear they'll have to cash in on Pogba this summer if he fails to put pen-to-paper on an extension, as it's the last chance for the club to obtain a decent fee for the former Juventus man.

Pogba, for his part, is open to staying at Old Trafford and interest in his services has not been forthcoming in the transfer market. However, his agent Mino Raiola knows there will be a queue for Pogba next summer should he allow his contract to wind down.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer views Pogba as a vital part of his side moving forward and has told his board that keeping the Frenchman is imperative to challenging for trophies next term.

As such, United are willing to back Solskjaer by offering Pogba an eye-watering salary of £400,000-a-week across the next five years.

The contract - worth £104m over its duration - would make Pogba the highest paid player in the Premier League and see him topple David De Gea as United's top earner.

Any extension will not be signed until the completion of the European Championships but the Sun say there's optimism on both sides that a deal can be struck.

Solskjaer hopes to further illustrate to Pogba that United can challenge for major honours by signing Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

United are closing in on a deal for the former Manchester City winger and hope to sign him once his involvement in the Euros is complete.

Solskjaer will then target a central defender, with Real Madrid's Raphael Varane high on his list of priorities.

Though Declan Rice is admired at Old Trafford, United do not see signing the England ace as a possibility this summer given West Ham's £100m valuation of him.
