Alaba spent 10 successful years at Bayern Munich

The left-back, who can also play as a central defender or midfielder, won 10 Bundesliga titles while making 431 appearances for Bayern.

On social media, Alaba wrote: "I leave a special club for another special club.

"I am really happy and honoured to join Real Madrid.

"After so many years in Munich I will face a new challenge and I will give my best to continue the club's special history."

Alaba, an Austria international, is Real Madrid's first signing of what looks set to be a busy summer at the Bernabeu.

Los Blancos are on the lookout for a new manager following Zinedine Zidane's decision to leave his post on Thursday.

A statement on the club website read: "Real Madrid CF announces that Zinedine Zidane has decided to end his current stage as coach of our club.

"It is now time to respect his decision and show him our appreciation for his professionalism, dedication and passion in all these years, and for what his figure represents for Real Madrid.

"Zidane is one of the great myths of Real Madrid and his legend goes beyond what he has been as a coach and player of our club.

"He knows that he is at the heart of Real Madrid and that Real Madrid is and will always be his home."
