Ronaldo, Messi lose European Golden Shoe to Lewandowski

Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski has won this season's European Golden Shoe, ahead of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Polish striker scored a record-breaking 41 goals in Bundesliga in 2020/2021.

Lewandowski's 90th-minute goal during their 5-2 win over SC Freiburg on Saturday, saw him surpass Gerd Muller's long-standing record of 40 goals set in the 1971-72 season.

Juventus forward Ronaldo also made history, becoming the first player to finish as top scorer in the Premier League, LaLiga and now Serie A. But his total of 29 was not enough to catch Lewandowski.

Messi finished the campaign on 30 goals as the leading scorer in LaLiga.

Lewandowski failed to find the back of the net in only four of the 27 league matches he started for Bayern this term. But he scored three or more goals on five occasions.
