Carabao Cup: Mourinho blasts Dele Alli after Stoke City win

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Jose Mourinho, has lashed out at Dele Alli following their 3-1 win over Stoke City in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday night.

Alli returned to the Spurs starting XI for the game, but Mourinho was not especially happy with his performance.

The England international was making his first start since November 26 and it was a rare chance for him to prove his worth to his manager.

However, the 24-year-old gave the ball away in the build-up to Stoke equalizer early in the second half and was taken off in the 66th minute.

"A player in that position is a player that has to link and create and not to create problems for his own team.

"In that situation, an objective counter-attack would probably end with a goal, and it ended with a counter-attack behind our defenders.

"We were unbalanced because when you are in possession you have full-backs out wide and another midfielder in a different line and they caught us in a counter-attack and they transformed the result of the game that was totally in our hands, so yes I am upset," Mourinho said after the game.

Spurs have been drawn against Brentford in the semi-final.
