FA Cup: Solskjaer told to replace De Gea with Henderson immediately

A former England striker, Alan Shearer, has urged Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, that the time has come for goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, to replace David De Gea as Red Devils' no.1 shot-stopper.

De Gea is under fire after an awful display in Man United's FA Cup semi-final 3-1 defeat to Chelsea.

The 29-year-old was beaten at his near post for the first and third of Chelsea's goals and dropped a clanger when somehow failing to keep out Mason Mount's long-range effort for the second.

His errors are the latest in a succession of mistakes over the past few years, with the Spain international seemingly a shadow of the goalkeeper, who was once regarded as the best in the world.

De Gea's downturn in form comes at a time when Henderson continues to excel on loan at Sheffield United.

But Shearer believes Solskjaer should bring back Henderson from his loan spell at Sheffield.

"If the goalkeeper [De Gea] makes one mistake, or possibly two, you think you should stick with him," Shearer said on BBC. "But it keeps happening.

"I think you only bring Dean Henderson back to Manchester United as the number one, or you keep him where he is to keep gaining experience. I think that time has come."
