Messi's teammate reacts to criticisms about Barcelona striker in unique way

Sergio Aguero has come in strong defence of his international teammate Lionel Messi over criticisms of his performances for Argentina.

Despite scoring 70 goals in 138 games for the Albiceleste, but his stats are still not good enough for some session of Argentine fans.

The Barcelona captain went on a short break from international duty after their dismal outing at the 2018 World Cup.

But the 32-year-old returned to help the country into a third-place finish at the Copa America tournament held in Brazil in 2019.

And Aguero thinks the criticism on Messi is unfair and praised his teammate's commitment to the national team.

"I do not understand those who criticise him in the national team," the Man City striker told TyC Sports. "He is the first to suffer and continues to come."

Aguero is the top fourth highest scorer in the Premier League but has recorded the most hat-tricks in the English top-flight division.

He has been linked with a move away from the Etihad to his boyhood club Independiente with just over a year left on his deal but is uncertain about the future.

"For now, I'm not thinking about what to do. With all this, the clubs are having problems," he added.

"Up until next year, it can be extended for two months or more.

There are players who end contracts this year and if it is played in July, August or September, the clubs are going to have problems.

"I don't know if they can renew with players for three months or six. The first thing is to end this season and hit everything next."

The former Atletico Madrid striker has won four Premier League titles with City as well as an FA Cup, five League Cups and three Community Shields.
