Jose Mourinho's 'greatest enemy' set for unexpected return to Old Trafford

Former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Scholes, is set to make an unexpected return to the club, as part of the club's summer restructuring, the UK Metro reports.

Scholes came through the famous academy as part of the 'Class of 92', alongside the likes of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville.

He played 718 times over 20 seasons under Sir Alex Ferguson's tutelage, winning 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cups and two Champions League crowns.

United are ready to shake up the club behind-the-scenes with a Director of Football one of their No.1 priorities.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's current assistant, Mike Phelan, is thought to be in line to be named technical director.

It is currently unknown the exact job Scholes will be given, but it is thought he will help provide the decision making process at a board level.
