Champions League: Benzema equals Messi's record

Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema, on Tuesday night equalled Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi's Champions League goal record.

Benzema reached Messi's Champions League goal record after scoring a goal in Real Madrid's 2-2 draw against Monchengladbach.

His goal against Monchengladbach means the 32-year-old France international has now scored in 16 consecutive Champions League seasons.

Benzema and Messi are now the only two players in Champions League history to score a goal in sixteen straight seasons, ESPN reports.

Meanwhile, Manchester United legend, Ryan Giggs also scored in 16 Champions League seasons, but he did it non-consecutively.

Benzema will now hope to lead Real Madrid to victory when they host Huesca in the La Liga fixture this weekend.
