EPL: What Lampard said about Havertz, Werner after 2-0 defeat to Liverpool

Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, has admitted Kai Havertz needs more time to adapt to football in England after he struggled to make an impact against Liverpool on Sunday.

Havertz, who arrived from Bayer Leverkusen in a £71million deal, had made a low-key debut in the 3-1 win at Brighton on Monday.

Against Brighton, the 21-year-old was handed a deeper midfield role, while he played as a false nine against Liverpool, with Timo Werner operating from the left.

When asked if it was always his plan to play Havertz as a false nine against the Reds, Lampard told Chelsea TV: "It was the plan regardless, Timo likes to play off the left side.

"He's very versatile. He [Werner] can play centrally or left side, I think he was fantastic in moments today, you saw the difference he's going to make.

"With Kai, it was a feeling that he can be central and give them a problem by coming slightly deeper sometimes.

"When he started to get into the game you could feel that a little bit.

"He needs time, Kai Havertz. He trained just a few days before Brighton, again he's had to recover and get ready for this game.

"So I've got no doubt in time that we can be versatile with not just those two but the front players we have."
