Liverpool agree £45m fee with Wolves for Diogo Jota on five-year deal

Liverpool have agreed a deal with Wolves for forward Diogo Jota, with the Portuguese star set to move to Anfield on a five-year deal.

The 23-year-old is going to cost an initial fee of £41m, which could rise to £45m with further payments and add-ons.

Initial reports suggested the move could be worth around £35m but Wolves have secured more for one of their star players.

The Evening Standard report that the Portugal international is set to sign a contract that will keep him at Liverpool until 2025 and he is due to be confirmed as a Reds player this weekend.

After a quiet transfer window for the Premier League champions, which had only seen them sign Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos, Jurgen Klopp's side have sprung into action on Friday.

Thiago Alcantara was announced as a new arrival from Bayern Munich in a deal beginning at £20m and now a move for Jota has been all-but confirmed.

The huge fee is set to be paid in instalments, with only around £4m to be paid over the next year.

Although it is a separate deal, Ki-Jana Hoever's move in the opposite direction has made Jota's transfer easier.

The 18-year-old Dutchman is swapping Anfield for Molineux for an initial £9m, with the potential for the fee to rise by £4.5m with add-ons.

Jota will not be a Liverpool player in time to play at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea in the Premier League, but he could be registered in time for the trip to Lincoln in the EFL Cup on Thursday.

Although he will almost certainly act as an understudy for the front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, Jota will become the fourth most expensive signing in the club's history behind Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Naby Keita.
