Brighton vs Chelsea: Lampard reveals how he hijacked Werner from Liverpool

Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, believes his personal touch saw him snatching Timo Werner from Liverpool's grasp.

Werner was heavily linked with the Premier League champions, but eventually moved to Stamford Bridge in a £53 million deal.

The Blues have spent over £200 million improving their squad this summer and every new signing has highlighted Lampard's influence as crucial to their signature.

Werner is in line to make his debut against Brighton in the Premier League on Monday and Lampard admits it was pleasing to win the race to sign the German.

"You understand when it is the competition with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City that you need to state your best case to the player.

"With a player like Timo (Werner), we were very, very keen to bring him in. He needs to feel that from us. I loved everything he said to me in those kinds of conversations," Lampard told reporters.
