Jubilation as English club returns to Premier League for the 1st time since 2004

Leeds United have returned to the Premier League for the first time since 2004.

The Peacocks confirmed their promotion after second-place team West Bromwich Albion suffered a 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield at the John Smith Stadium.

Marcelo Bielsa's men could be crowned champions early if Brentford fail to beat Stoke on Saturday, July 18, while a point against Derby County in Sunday's encounter will go along way.

The Argentine-born tactician leads the Yorkshire side back to the English topflight in his second season in charge of the club.

They got their campaign off to a bright start in a bid to avoid mistakes of past seasons and the coronavirus break did not affect them one bit.

Leeds never stepped out of the top two on the Championship table since November last year despite finishing third on the log in 2018.

United narrowly missed out of qualification at the end of last season but one year after, they have amassed a club 87 points from 44 games.

Since they relegated 16 years ago, they have watched 28 different clubs gain promotion to play in the Premier League.
