Just in: Bad night for Klopp as Liverpool get unpleasant result against Everton in tough EPL tie

Everton were clearly the better side in the epic fixture as they came closest on three occasions, but they somehow could not score.

There were some sparks in the first half with Everton starting brightly having a free-kick inside their half when Tom Davies was tripped by Firmino, but Andre Gomes' last effort wasn't properly connected by Alex Iwobi.

Sergio Mane and Roberto Firmino also combined well for Liverpool in the 18th minute but Coleman was alert as he popped in between the duo to halt their slick passing move from the left flank towards the danger area.

Both teams matched each in all departments of the game in the first half, but somehow it remained all square at half-time.

However the second-half looked more promising as Richarlison would have opened the scoring in the 62nd minute as he raced from his own half into the Liverpool danger area, but his final shot was forced wide by Joel Matip.

The best chance came in the 80th minute for the hosts when Dominic Calvert-Lewi's back-heel was parried by Alisson Becker unto the path of Davies whose shot hit the woodwork before Virgil van Dijk put the ball away, as the Reds survive.

It was more of the hosts late on as Everton did everything possible to grasp a late winner, but they somehow could not find the back of the net. It ended in a stalemate.

Ft: Everton 0-0 Liverpool. The result means Liverpool are now on 83 points, five points clear of Manchester City who have a game in hand.

This could mean the Reds will have to wait a little longer before they claim the title.

Everton on the other hand failed to complement on their position in 12th, and their hopes of a possible European competition spot dashed.
