Tension at Emirates as Luiz and Arsenal chiefs 'clash' over new deal for him after Man City mistakes

Amid a nightmare return to action for Arsenal centre-back David Luiz, the player's agent broke his silence on his future.

Luiz only has less than a fortnight left on his contract and after the horror show against Manchester City on Wednesday, June 17, rumors were rife that he is set for the exit door.

The 33-year old's agent Luiz's agent Kia Joorabchian leapt to his client's defence as he revealed the contract situation will be solved by the end of the week.

"The contract situation has dragged on not because of any reason, not because of the will of either Arsenal or David to finalise, but really because of the situation that occurred with this pandemic," he said on the White & Sawyer show.

According to Joorabchian, Luiz was a professional who simply had a very bad game on Wednesday night.

He is looking at June 22 as the latest date when the Brazilian defender's future will be decided.

"I spoke with David last night. These things happen in a game, and I'm not defending any situation but David is a guy who has won 20 trophies in his career, including the Premier League, the FA Cup, the Europa League and the Champions League," he went on.

According to The Sun, next Tuesday is the deadline for the Gunners to seal Luiz's future and reports suggest he wants a new two-year deal but the club is only willing to extend his contract for another 12 months.
