Mallorca vs Barcelona: Messi sets new record after 4-0 win

Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi on Saturday night set a new record following his side's La Liga 4-0 win against Mallorca.

Barcelona went in front as early as the second minute of play, after Arturo Vidal headed home Jordi Alba's cross.

Martin Braithwaite doubled their advantage with eight minutes left to half time.

Alba made it three late in the second half before Messi rounded off scoring on an impressive night for Barcelona at the Visit Mallorca Estadi.

However, Messi's Goal against Mallorca means the 32-year-old is now the only player to score 20 or more goals in the La Liga in twelve consecutive seasons, Goal reports.

The Argentine captain also saw his league assist tally this season rise to 14, making him both the top scorer and top assist provider in Spain's top-flight league so far this term.

Messi will now hope to lead Quique Setien's men to victory when they host Leganes on Tuesday in their next fixture.

The victory against Mallorca means Barcelona are now five points clear of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will be looking to close the gap when they host Eibar on Sunday.
