Former Manchester United star cautions Solskjaer not to spend £20m to sign Ighalo permanently

Former Manchester United star Gary Neville has questioned the rationale behind the club wanting to sign 30-year-old Odion Ighalo permanently for £20million.

Ighalo made instant statement since his arrival at the Old Trafford club on loan from Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua scoring four goals in his eight appearances for the Reds.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly impressed with the former Watford man and it was gathered that he is ready to splash £20 million ($25m) on the ex-Watford striker.

Ighalo completed a loan move to the club in January and he is billed to leave at the end of May, but the Nigerian is also willing to remain at the club until, at least, the end of the season.

"Is Ighalo worth £20m?" Neville charged during an Instagram live.

"Probably not in this market. He may have been if he continued before scoring goals but you probably don't need now to spend £20m."

Ighalo who arrived on deadline day has continued to receive accolades from supporters and experts, with club legend Andy Cole also having his say.

Cole told MUTV in April: "I think he has done pretty well when he has been given the opportunity, he has applied himself really well in the club and has scored four good goals, four centre-forward goals, you can't ask for much more."

It is not yet known whether Ighalo will be allowed to remain in Manchester beyond the end of the month, particularly as the proposed resumption of the Premier League season remains in a state of flux.
