Panic at Old Trafford as Ighalo's club sends urgent message to Man United over his future

Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua have reportedly told Nigerian star Odion Ighalo to return to camp ahead of the new season scheduled for July kick-off.

The 30-year-old has been on loan at Premier League club Manchester United since January 2020, but the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic has stretched the duration of the season beyond usual.

United are hoping they can keep the former Watford striker at Old Trafford until the elongated season is over but the Asian club thinks differently.

However, Shanghai Shenhua are not ready to allow their forward embark on another temporary journey after impressing at the club in his first few matches.

They want United to sign him on a permanent basis or forget about having him for an extended time as reported by Sky Sports.

And the Chinese club has placed a price tag of about £20 million on the former Super Eagles star who won the golden boot at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations championship in Egypt.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have been linked with the Nigerian star but this deal might not happen unless the proposed takeover of the club is completed this summer.

Ighalo has scored four goals and one assist in nine appearances across competitions for the Old Trafford outfit since he joined them in late January.
