Football legend Maradona makes touching prayer to God as coronavirus bites harder

Football legend Diego Maradona has prayed for God's divine intervention to help end coronavirus pandemic.

For more than three months now, COVID-19 has caused unprecedented suffering globally after nearly 220,000 succumbing to the virus.

The outbreak of the highly contagious disease has seen economies grounded, with sporting activities bearing its brunt effects.

On Tuesday, April 28, the Argentine football federation voted to cancel their football season and even suspended relegation for two years.

The drastic move saw Maradona's Gimnasia saved from being dropped from the division, with many dubbing it another hand of God moment in reference to the former footballer's infamous handball goal that helped Argentina knock England out of the 1986 World Cup.

But the former striker believes there is need for a different divine intervention from God that can help the world return to normalcy.

"This happened to us today and many people are calling it a new Hand of God," Metro UK quoted Maradona saying.

"But today I am asking for that hand to do away with the pandemic so people can get back to living their lives, with health and happiness," he added.
