Top European footballer lands in artificial comma after testing positive for covid-19

French side Montpellier's midfielder Junior Sambia is the latest football player to test positive for the coronavirus.

TUKO.co.ke has since learnt the 23-year-old midfielder was placed on artificial comma following the diagnosis.

Sambia's condition is a bit worrying as his agent Frederic Guerra revealed the footballer's symptoms were so serious he had to change hospitals and was placed in intensive care.

His condition was eventually stabilized, although he continues to be monitored.

"His condition is stable this Friday. It has not deteriorated, nor improved," Guerra told Le Parisien.

The agent further divulged on the symptoms the player suffered, including diarrhea.

"I reached him when he was on an IV. He had just received the Covid-19 test result. This on was negative. He was due to leave on Wednesday, then his condition worsened with his lungs," he went on.

France is among the European countries which have been hard hit by the coronavirus, with numbers on Saturday, April 25 standing at 123,000 cases with a confirmed 22,245 deaths.

Because of the situation, President Emmanuel Macron extended lockdown to May 11.

As far as football is concerned, South Korean Hyun-jun Suk was the first player to test positive for the virus back in March.

Suk plays for Ligue 2 side Troyes.
