Former Paraguay star Edgar Benitez has lost some of his valuable possessions after his family home which under renovation was burgled.

The 32-year-old was said to have collected over a thousand jerseys from players from opposition players in all the competitions he has competed.

Benitez who currently plays for Club Guarani scored nine goals in 56 appearances for his national team since he made his debut in 2008.

However, the Mirror reports that most of the autographed memorabilia were stolen when the burglars came into his home.

Though, the police are said to have recovered about 65 of the stolen items and have also arrested two men who were suspected to have carried out the operation.

Meanwhile, the attacker appears to be unhappy following the news that his most cherished of the shirts were said to have been sold.

The publication noted that jerseys of Brazil legend Ronaldinho, with that of Lionel Messi and World Cup winner Paul Pogba, are the ones missing.

And they are apparently the 32-year-old's most valuable collections in all the jersey he has exchanged with other players.

Benitez has discovered that some of his shirts were being offered for sale on social media networks for as little as £30.

The midfielder played for his country at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa as well as two Copa America tournaments.

Benitez said: "The shirts of my entire football life over 15 years have been stolen from my house.

"The police have recovered 65 shirts that were in the possession of someone who stole them and someone who was selling them.

"But there are still more than 900 still missing." Benitez's family were staying at another house during the building work. And one of the men arrested in connection with the crime was part of the construction team.
