Premier League season postponed further but is extended 'indefinitely'

The Premier League and the English Football League has been postponed further until April 30 but the season has been extended 'indefinitely' in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The last Premier League fixture was played on March 9 and was initially postponed until at least April 4 due to the outbreak.

But following a crisis meeting with all 20 clubs on Thursday, it has now been decided that football will be postponed until the end of the month.

However, the Football Association has confirmed that the current season will now be extended 'indefinitely ' until it is completed.

Liverpool are just two wins away from winning the Premier League title, while Champions League and relegation places are still up for grabs.

In total, there are still 92 Premier League fixtures to be played.

In the Championship, Leeds and West Brom appeared to be on course for promotion to the Premier League before the campaign was halted due to the pandemic.

A statement from the FA said: 'The FA's Rules and Regulations state that "the season shall terminate not later than the 1 June" and "each competition shall, within the limit laid down by The FA, determine the length of its own playing season".

'However, our Board has agreed for this limit to be extended indefinitely for the 2019-20 season in relation to professional football.
