Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a move for rock-solid Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils signed Nigerian forward Odion Ighalo on a short term loan deal from China last month as back-up for injured Marcus Rashford.

They also completed the long-awaited Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon before the window shut on Friday night.

However, as part of plans to make the club formidable again, United are planning to bring the Senegalese to Old Trafford.

Reports claim United are not done spending in the transfer market having set the full-back as their priority signing in the next few months.

According to the Mirror, the Red Devils want to try again after efforts to land him last year failed to materialise. The club have been long-term admirers of the player since the era of Jose Mourinho.

The club are hoping he would be the perfect partner for the most expensive defender in the world Harry Maguire after Victor Lindelof's no-show for the 20-time champions.

Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the United board will have to battle the likes of Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea for the defender.

However, to increase their chances of landing Koulibaly, the Manchester club will have to seal a place in the Champions League.

They currently sit sixth on the league standings with 35 points, with Solskjaer highlighting the need for his wards' to integrate into Fernandes' wavelength.

United were forced to a goalless draw by giant slayers Wolverhampton Wanderers despite the introduction of their latest signing.

The Portuguese midfielder shone against Wolves in his debut on Saturday, February 1, but his presence only guaranteed them a point afterward.
