Jubilation at Old Trafford as Man United finally reach agreement to sign Cristiano Ronaldo's teammate

Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign Portugal international Bruno Fernandes from Sporting CP.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to several top European clubs this winter but it was the Red Devils who seemed more interested in him.

With Paul Pogba out injured, and a number of other high profile stars unavailable for selection, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was desperate to seal the move before the close of the transfer window.

However, the Premier League giants confirmed on their website that the completion of the deal will be subjected to the player passing medicals and also agreeing personal terms with the club.

According to information on United's official website, the deal is already done but a few paperwork to wrap up the process.

The club said: "Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached an agreement with Sporting Clube de Portugal for the transfer of Bruno Fernandes.

"The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms. A further announcement will be made in due course."

Although, the Portuguese topflight side has already confirmed the deal on their official Twitter handle - telling the EPL club to take care of their captain.

The Portuguese club shared on one of their social media platforms after the deal was confirmed: "Take good care of our boy, @ManUtd .

With his impressive performances for his former club, United fans will be hoping their new signing would be able to hit the ground running as they hope to finish strong at the end of the season.

The Red Devils currently sit fifth on the Premier League table with 34 points after 24 matches - six behind Chelsea.

And they will have to turn their results around if they must qualify for Champions League next campaign.

Solskjaer's men were also dumped out of the Carabao Cup competition by their city rivals Manchester City despite winning the game by a goal to nothing.

They were ousted 3-2 on aggregate having lost the first leg by 3-1 at Old Trafford a fortnight ago, but Nemanja Matic's solo was not enough to help his side advance to the final of the cup competition.
