Arsenal offically make club legend No.1 target to take over from Emery

Patrick Vieira has become Arsenal's number one target as a possible replacement for axed Unai Emery, reports claim.

The club legend was teammate with caretaker boss Freddie Ljungberg when they went unbeaten in the Premier League in the 2003-04 season.

Ljungberg made it clear he was not looking to take over as permanent manager before his first match in charge against Norwich City at Carrow Road.

And according to French news media outlet Nice-Matin, Vieira who currently manages Ligue 1 side Nice has emerged as the leading candidate for the vacant managerial position at the Emirates.

Vieira had previously coached MLS side New York City before helping Nice to a seventh-place finish in the 2018-19 season.

Another Arsenal legend Mikel Arteta has also been linked with the job as well as Wolves boss Nuno Espirit Santo, Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers and sacked Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.
