Top Premier League Club plotting surprise transfer move for want-away chelsea star

Crystal Palace have reportedly joined the chase to land want-away Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud when the January transfer window opens.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup-winning star has made just five appearances for the Blues under Frank Lampard across all competitions this campaign. Giroud's current deal with the Stamford Bridge side expires next June but the club are hoping they can cash in on him in the next few weeks.

The Frenchman is behind Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi in the order of preferred strikers by Lampard.

Chelsea have set around £5million price tag on the player before allowing him to leave in January since both parties failed to agree on a new term.

The publication reveals that the former Arsenal man, who currently earns around £7m-a-year at the club wants to sign a new two-year deal before considering to stay.

Meanwhile, Marseille, Montpellier, Lyon, and Inter Milan have also shown interest in the forward, but are unwilling to pay the price slammed on him

Palace are however ready to make the move as they desperately want to better their scoring chances going into the second half of the season.

It would be recalled that Roy Hodgson's effort to sign a new striker during the summer window failed and he has penned the former Arsenal down as his best option.

The Eagles are 13th on the log with 15 points - eight-point better than relegation-threatened teams after matchday 12.
