Sergio Ramos' lone strike against Leganes on Wednesday night, October 30, has leveled him with Lionel Messi in a 16-year long La Liga record.

The Spaniard converted a 24-minute penalty to draw the score sheet to 3-0 within the first half before Benzema grabbed his goal through another penalty.

The strike, which is Ramos' first goal of the season, means the energetic defender has scored for the Los Blancos in sixteen consecutive seasons, Daily Star claims.

Amusingly, Messi is the only person to have reached that monumental landmark for Barcelona in La Liga.

The Argentine ace recorded his first goals for the Catalans against Albacete in 2004/05 campaign.

On the other hand, Ramos registered his first La Liga goal for Sevilla, before switching to Real Madrid.

Since then he has proved his goal-scoring consistency with some of his goals taking a messianic turn for the Spanish giants.

Last season, the World Cup-winning defender had 11 goals across competitions in what turned out to be his most productive year.

His late goals for the Santiago Bernabeu side in two Champions League finals 2014 and 2016 helped to Madrid lift the coveted trophy in style.
