Ramos makes history in Real Madrid's 2-1 defeat to Girona

Real Madrid captain, Sergio Ramos on Sunday made history in his side's La Liga 2-1 defeat to Girona at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Metro UK reports that Ramos became the first player to receive 20 red cards in Europe's top five leagues when he was sent off during Real Madrid's defeat to Girona.

Real Madrid took the lead when Casemiro leapt to meet a Toni Kroos cross and headed home in the first half.

In the second half, Girona levelled in the 65th minute with a Cristhian Stuani penalty kick, after a handball by Ramos.

Spanish striker, Cristian Portu scored Girona's second goal 10 minutes later.

The defeat left Real Madrid third in the standings on 45 points, nine behind table-toppers, FC Barcelona and seven back from second-placed, Atletico Madrid.
