Joe Gomez is expected to see a borne specialist in the coming days after his fractured right leg refused to heal.
According to a Daily Mail report, Gomez, who suffered the leg break during Liverpool's 3-1 win at Burnley on December 5, has been sidelined more time than predicted.
Although, the England star has commenced rehab with running in January, club boss Jurgen Klopp on Friday revealed the 21-year-old Gomez is likely to sit out Liverpool's first leg Champions League cracker with Bayern Munich on February 19.
Klopp further refused to rule out the possibility of Gomez going under the knife in the coming days.
"It is not exactly going how we want, that's how it is," said Klopp.
"He needs more time. We will see exactly how we do it. There were different moments we thought we could do this or that. It will take time. We cannot say more."
Asked if surgery would be a preferred option on the troubled leg, the German tactician, who is facing a tough time with injuries to squad members remains hopeful.
"I don't know. We will see. It is possible, probably."
Klopp has seen his players suffer various degree of injuries that has affected his defence selections.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is 14 days way from returning, but has made remarkable progress, while Dejan Lovren had a setback with his hamstring.
Virgil van Dijk is back after an illness but he will not be available to face Bayern after two cautions in the group stage of the Champions League.
Klopp further revealed he had no regret sanctioning Nathaniel Clyne loan switch to Bournemouth while reacting to a question.
"You make the decision in the moment you have to and then people judge it later. Hendo (Jordan Henderson) did well.
"We all know how good Clyney is, but would he have had more offensive influence in the game? I don't know. Defensively I did not see a mistake from Hendo," Klopp submitted.
