Super Eagles star stopped from taking penalty he won by club captain

Oghenekaro Etebo was denied the opportunity to take a penalty he won in Stoke City's 2-0 loss at home to Preston North End in the English Championship.

The Super Eagles midfielder was tripped in the box while Stoke trailed the visitors by 2-0, and it was an opportunity to get a lifeline in the match.

The 23-year-old stepped up to take the ball as club captain Ryan Showcross collected the ball from the Nigerian international and handed it over to Sam Clucas to the his disappointment.

Clucas then forced a fine save from Preston shot-stopper Declan Rudd to the dismay of fans as the visitors ran away with the two-goal advantage.

The former Las Palmas attacker is yet to register a goal for the English club this season in 19 matches as Stoke's fight to return into topflight action suffered another setback as they slip to 15th on the table.

Etebo joined the Potter's just be World Cup last summer in Russia and he played a key role in teh Super Eagles campaign at the tournament.

The attacking midfielder who has also played one League Cup match this term has been cautioned twice and sent off once respectively.
