Dutch professional football star Rafael van der Vaart has snubbed the trio of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric and picked who he thinks is the best footballer in the world.

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is the current World best after winning the Ballon d'Or award beating Barcelona star Lionel Messi and Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo.

But former Tottenham superstar Van der Vaart has overlooked these three players and picked Real Madrid and Spanish midfielder Isco as the best footballer in the World.

"It's crazy for me, Isco is the best player in the world.

"But he always has problems with coaches and even Zinedine Zidane never trusted him 100 per cent.

"When I go to watch Madrid I'll see if he starts and if not, I'm going home,'' Rafael van der Vaart told Marca.

This season, Isco has been struggling at Real Madrid and there have been lots of reports linking him with a move away from the Bernabeu in the ongoing transfer window.

He was expected to shine when Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid for a move to Juventus, but he is yet to find his rhythm this term.

Real Madrid are currently occupying fourth position on the Premier League standings with 33 points after 19 games played this season.
