Ronaldo defeats Kylian Mbappé and Griezmann to win prestigious award in Dubai

Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo has started the year 2019 on an impressive note after being crowned the winner of the 2018 Globe Soccer Awards on Thursday night, January 3.

The 10th edition of the Globe Soccer Awards was held at the Madinat Jumeirah Resort in Dubai.

Cristiano Ronaldo was nominated in the player of the year category alongside France duo Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann.

But despite the two Frenchmen's achievement in 2018 winning the World Cup title in Russia, they were beaten by Ronaldo for the award.

Before the Portuguese left Spanish club Real Madrid, he helped them to win their third Champions League title beating Liverpool in Kiev.

The 33-year-old also emerged top scorer in the Champions League, after netting an impressive 15 goals en route to Madrid's triumph.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo has been impressive since joining Juventus from Real Madrid helping the club to reach the knock out stage of the 2018/19 Champions League.
