Ander Herrera reveals Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told Manchester United to attack on day one

Ander Herrera revealed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told his players he wanted them to focus on attacking on his first day as manager of Manchester United.

Solskjaer was named caretaker manager until the end of the season after United sacked Jose Mourinho, and has won his first three games in charge.

United have scored 12 goals in those three matches, with Paul Pogba directly involved in seven of those goals, while Herrera himself has grabbed two assists and a goal in those games.

Red Devil fans are hailing the return of attacking football and Herrera admitted their new manager was focused on implementing positive tactics.

He said: 'Our manager told us on the first day, the best way to win a game when you are in the lead is to keep attacking and this what the club has always been about.

'The best way to defend is to keep the ball and keep attacking.

'When you win and score lots of goals you want to play as soon as possible and I hope we perform on Wednesday against Newcastle as we have today.

'We are still sixth but we should not be because of the quality we have.'

United resume action on Wednesday against Newcastle and then have an FA Cup clash with Reading next weekend, before Solskjaer's first major test as manager against Tottenham.

Eric Bailly will miss United's next three games after picking up a straight red card in the win over Bournemouth.

The suspension comes just as the defender had managed to break into Solskjaer's starting eleven, but the United boss admitted there were no complaints about the decision from the player.

He said: 'Eric knows it's a rash challenge, he doesn't have to do it. But the boys are excited, he doesn't want to do that and he's the first to admit he made a mistake.'
