Checkout date Ronaldo could be sentenced to 2 years in prison

Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will be handed a two-year prison sentence alongside a £16.9m fine on the January 21 2019 for fraud.

According to The Mirror report, the Portuguese four counts tax fraud trial will commence at 9:50am local time on January 21 at the Madrid Provincial Court, but sources claim he may not be required to attend the hearing in person as he could arrange to follow proceedings via video conference.

Interestingly, the former Real Madrid star despite agreeing a deal with the Spanish authorities back in July to cough out the fee and fine totaling £16.9m for his image-rights earnings between 2011 and 2014 will not be heading to prison.

Under the Spanish law prison sentences of two years and below can be served on probation.

Interestingly, the Prosecutor for Economic Crimes in Madrid reportedly claim Ronaldo had not paid tax on his image-rights earnings for the four aforementioned year.

In addition, the Public Ministry's report further revealed that Ronaldo's income was nearly £38.9m, but he presented income documents from Spanish sources of £10.4m for 2011 to 2014.

The 33-year-old Ronaldo joined Italian champions Juventus for £94m from Real Madrid this summer with La Liga president JavierTebas claiming the move was motivated by financial gains.

"He will earn more money (there) than here. I think that fiscally it favours him to go to Italy. Here, in Spain, we have a problem with fiscal competition,"
he submitted.
