Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has revealed that the ' Carrington quintuplet ' a group of special players "controlled the Manchester United dressing room" during Sir Alex Ferguson reign at Old Trafford.
According to a UK Independent report citing NBCSN, Rooney, who currently plies his trade with DC United in the MLS, noted their role then was to ensure new squad members are quickly integrated to the team's identity as well as harnessing the individual personalities for stars players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov.
"We controlled the dressing room ourselves," Rooney was quoted as saying by NBCSN.
"Alex Ferguson didn't really need to control that. The players had the trust of the manager to do that themselves."
"The likes of Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand, myself - players who had Man U in them and wanted the best for that club - would never allow anyone to mess that up."
"That would never be allowed to happen," added Rooney, who appears unhappy with happening at the Old Trafford, that has seen the pair of Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez seeking a move away from Old Trafford.
Mourinho's side travel to face former club Chelsea on Saturday with the pressure on the United boss somewhat subduing over the international break.
Interestingly, reports now suggest that if Manchester United fail to beat Chelsea this weekend, Portuguese manager, Jose Mourinho may likely be given the boots.
