Barcelona star Lionel Messi beats Paul Pogba, 2 others to Champions League prestigious prize

   Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has been crowned the UEFA Champions League best player of the week after his superb display for his side on match day 1.

The Argentine forward powered his side to a 4-0 victory over Dutch League giants PSV Eindhoven in their UCL Group B opener on Tuesday, September 18.

He beat Manchester United captain Paul Pogba (2 goals), Liverpool's James Milner (1 goal) and Lyon's Nabil Fekir (1 goal) to win the prestigious award.

The 31-year-old star grabbed his first hat-trick of the competition as the Camp Nou outfit continued their impressive start to the start of the season.

Messi opened scoring for his side in the 32nd minute through a superb free kick and gave his side the advantage in the first half.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 75th minute through World Cup winning star Ousmane Dembele and two minutes later Messi made it three goals up.

Three minutes before the blast of the final whistle, the Argentine completed his hat-trick of the game to seal the victory for Ernesto Valverde's men.

Red Devils star Pogba scored twice to lead his side to 3-0 victory over Swiss side Young Boys away from home.

Milner and Fekir each scored in their games as they also helped their teams beat their opponents in their various games.
Liverpool beat Paris Saint Germain 3-2 at Anfield while Manchester City suffered 2-1 defeat to Lyon.
