One of the three unbeaten sides in the league bowed down this weekend and another manager's job was saved having lost his first four games.
The top two sides in league have continued their impressive run in matches played so far, winning all their five their opening fixtures.
Here are the things that happened over the weekend in the English Premier League
1. Mourinho spoils Watford's perfect run
Under-fire Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho continued to prove doubters wrong as his side recorded a 2-1 victory at Vicarage Road.
The high-flying Watford side bowed to the superior tactical Red Devils' side with goals from Romelu Lukaku and Chris Smalling.
The Hornets had a fight back through Andre Gray's 65th minute strike but United held on to move within touching distance of the top-four.
2. Jurgen Klopp passes first acid test
Liverpool recorded a 2-1 victory over Tottenham at the Wembley Stadium to prove that they are worthy contenders of the Premier League this season.
Georgino Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino were among the scorers but Erik Lamela's 92nd minute effort was not enough to save the home side from their second straight defeat of the season.
The Reds on the other hand, have maximum points in five games for the first time in their history and only the ninth Premier League side to do so.
3. Maurizio Sarri's impressive run continues
Chelsea came from behind to beat Cardiff City by 4-1 with star man Eden Hazard scoring a hat-trick at Stamford Bridge.
Italian manager Maurizio Sarri becomes the 4th manager in Premier League's history to win their first five games on the bounce after Carlo Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola and Craig Shakespear of Leicester City.
Chelsea are now joint-top of the league standings with 15 points but have a superior goal-difference to Liverpool.
4. Perfect birthday gift for Pellegrini
West Ham finally got their first win of the season following a 3-1 victory over Everton at Goodison Park.
It was a perfect present for Manuel Pellegrini who clocked 65 and also saved his job as manager of Hammers after losing their first four games.
Andriy Yamalenko scored a brace while Mario Arnautovic put the lead beyond the Toffees' reach after Gilfy Sigurdsson pulled one back before half time.
5. Arsenal back on track
The Gunners won their third consecutive match at Newcastle by 2-1 after losing their first two matches to Manchester City and Chelsea.
Unai Emery's side have shown that they can be worthy competitors for the Premier League title and could return to the Uefa Champions League competition if they continue their remarkable run.
