Chelsea are on the verge of finalising a deal for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani after the Italian agreed personal terms, according to reports in Italy.

New Blues boss Maurizio Sarri, who was officially unveiled to the press on Wednesday, has been keen to reinforce his squad and has already raided Serie A once this summer to bring Jorginho to west London.

He admitted that the midfield lacks 'a pinch of quality', though Sportitalia report that it will be centre-back Rugani who becomes Sarri's second signing.

The 23-year-old is keen to join Sarri at Chelsea and his agent, Davide Torchia, has already negotiated a five-year contract worth £4m-a-season - around £75k-a-week.

The transfer fee will reach £45m, though Chelsea still have to work out the finer details of the deal such as payment structure and bonuses.

Fali Ramadani, who brokered Sarri's move to Chelsea, met with Juve sporting director Fabio Paratici in a late night summit in Milan to try to thrash out the deal.

If everything goes to plan, Rugani could be given permission to undergo a medical in the next 24-48 hours before linking up with his new Chelsea teammates on their pre-season tour of Australia.

Chelsea are also simultaneously working on a deal to sign another Juve player, striker Gonzalo Higuain, who Sarri enjoyed an excellent relationship with at Napoli.

The Argentine produced his most prolific ever season under the chain-smoking Italian coach, earning a move to Juve, but he is likely to be a casualty of the club's mammoth expenditure on Cristiano Ronaldo.
