Chelsea are ready to hand Roma defender Kostas Manolas a £4.4million salary in order to make him one of Maurizio Sarri's first signings as manager.
Sarri is reportedly close to taking charge at Stamford Bridge and already has a list of players he is desperate to sign.
And 27-year-old central defender Manolas is said to feature prominently, with Sarri keen to bolster the backline as quickly as possible.
According to reports in Italy, the Blues are ready to activate Manolas' £31.5million release clause having established him as their top defensive target.
Furthermore, the Corriere dello Sport have suggested that Chelsea will tempt to lure him away from Roma with the promise of a bumper contract.
A move to Stamford Bridge would also represent the chance of a reunion with former defensive partner Antonio Rudiger, who arrived last summer.
