Alvaro Morata offered to Inter Milan as Blues target summer swoop for Mauro Icardi

Chelsea could offer out-of-favour Alvaro Morata to Inter Milan this summer as part of a deal to sign Argentine ace Mauro Icardi, according to reports.

Morata, 25, has been strongly linked with leaving the Blues just one season after his £70million arrival from Real Madrid.

The striker scored 11 Premier League goals for Chelsea this term, but managed to find the net in the league just once since December.

His poor form in front of goal saw Morata missed out on a place in Spain's World Cup squad.

A return to Italy, where he spend a prolific two season spell on loan with Juventus, is likely and it is now claimed Inter Milan could be his next destination, if Chelsea get their way.

The Blues are keen to replace the Spaniard with a proven goalscorer and reports in Spain and Italy have linked the Premier League giants with an interest in Icardi.

The Inter captain, also 25,  was in sublime form this season, scoring 29 goals in 34 league appearances as the San Siro club sealed a return to the Champions League for the first time since 2012 by finishing fourth in Serie A.

Icardi finished the campaign as the Italian top flight's joint-top scorer, alongside Lazio's Ciro Immobile.

And, according to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser and also Italian newspaper Il Messaggero, Chelsea are plotting a play-plus-cash deal to land the Argentina forward this summer.

It is claimed the 2016/17 Premier League champions are willing to offer €35-40million, plus Morata, to sign the skipper.
