Napoli appoint Carlo Ancelotti after sacking Chelsea target Maurizio Sarri

Napoli have moved swiftly to hire Carlo Ancelotti merely hours after confirming the sacking of Maurizio Sarri.

The Serie A outfit parted ways with Chelsea target Sarri despite finishing just four points behind Juventus at the top of the table and they have now hired a former Chelsea manager to replace him.

President Aurelio De Laurentiis tweeted that Sarri had left the club and thanked him for his efforts, saying: 'I thank Maurizio Sarri for his precious dedication to Napoli that allowed us to give the city and all Azzurri fans over the world prestige and emotions, creating a style of football admired everywhere and by everyone. Bravo Maurizio.'

And shortly after it emerged that Ancelotti has signed a three-year deal.

The former Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain manager moves to the San Paolo after seeing his most recent post at Bayern Munich being cut short as he was sacked midway through last season.

Sarri, meanwhile, is expected to find work quickly and Chelsea are the favourites to ensure his swift return to management.

Antonio Conte has yet to officially leave his role as Chelsea head coach, but despite securing the FA Cup just days ago he is expected to be given his marching orders.

His relationship with the Chelsea board soured after he publicly berated their transfer strategy after a miserable summer last year - and he is set to be moved on.
