Tottenham's Harry Kane matches Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi record with goals v Huddersfield

Harry Kane joined a very elite club indeed with his brace in Tottenham's 4-0 win over Huddersfield Town this afternoon, matching a record achieved only by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Given the Real Madrid and Barcelona superstars have smashed nearly every goalscoring record on offer in their tremendous careers, this feat speaks volumes about how Kane is playing right now.

After bizarrely failing to get off the mark in August once again, Kane has certainly enjoyed a far more successful September, scoring 11 goals in his last six games for Tottenham.

The 24-year-old also bagged two for England in their win over Malta at the start of the month, making it a stunning total of 13 for the month.

In doing so, Kane has become just one of three players to score that many goals in a single month, with Ronaldo doing it for Real Madrid in October 2010, and Messi for Barcelona in March 2012.

Many have started to compare the Spurs front-man with the iconic La Liga duo, and growing numbers are expecting him to one day overtake Alan Shearer as the all-time leading scorer in the Premier League.

Kane is currently on 84 top flight goals, so he has some way to go before he comes anywhere close Shearer's final tally of 260, though he has time on his side.

The England international has also won the Golden Boot for two seasons in a row, and looks once again like being a serious contender for the prize this year.
