Iheanacho still optimistic of playing for Nigeria at 2016 Olympics

Kelechi Iheanacho has admitted that he is still hopeful of representing Nigeria at this year's Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.

The Manchester City forward was named in Samson Siasia's provisional 35-man squad for the competition. If the Premier League club releases him, it means he would miss pre-season and the start of the new season.

City are so far refusing to let the 19-year-old go, but when asked if he could still travel to Rio next month, Iheanacho said: "Yeah, if they allow me to go, I will go, but they haven't concluded yet, so I don't know.

"I don't know about that, because it's not left for me to decide if I am going to the Olympics or not.

"So I don't know if they have concluded - my team and my country. I don't know if they have concluded [what to do] or not.

"If your country wants you to play for them you surely have to go, but it's not up for me to decide."
