Kano residents celebrate Sanusi's sack as Emir (Video)

Some residents of Kano State on Tuesday celebrated the dethronement of former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi.

The residents in large numbers were seen in front of a building believed to be a palace chanting anti-Sanusi slogans in Hausa.

Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, Salisu Tanko Yakasai shared a video of their protest via his Twitter handle.

A tweet that accompanied the video reads: "I remember when SLS was appointed as Emir, there were protests all over Kano for 3days, but today, this is the crowd celebrating his dethronement and subsequent appointment of the new Emir of Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero. Don't let twitter rants fool you. #AikiTill2023."

We reported that the Ganduje-led state government had on Monday dethroned Sanusi as Emir of Kano.

The government had explained that Sanusi was dethroned due to his "outright disregard for the state government and Kano Emirate's traditional norms."

Against the backdrop of Sanusi's removal as Emir, the state government had immediately named one of the sons of late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, Aminu Ado Bayero as the 15th Fulani Emir of the state.

Following his removal, Sanusi was banished from Kano and he had in the early hours of Tuesday arrived at his new residence in Loko, Nasarawa State.
