U.S. President Donald Trump insulted a female reporter during a press conference, on Monday. The press conference was about a trade deal with Mexico and Canada and other topics.
At one point during the conference, Trump called on ABC News reporter, Cecilia Vega, then he went on to suggest that the reporter was in "shock" by the very fact that she was called on to ask him a question, and that she does not think.
She's shocked that I picked her. She's like in a state of shock.
The reporter then tried to correct the president, saying:
I'm not, thank you, Mr. President.
But she was met with further insults as Trump said:
That's OK, I know you're not thinking. You never do.
And Trump replied:
No, go ahead. Go ahead.
During Monday mornings press conference, the US president also ranted more generally about the media.
Trump's insult was criticised on social media following the event, with critics suggesting that the exchange was indicative of misogyny in the White House.
