Gunmen abduct UNIPORT lecturer, demand N2m

Unknown gunmen have abducted a lecturer in the University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT, Dr. Reginald Ohiri.

The kidnappers have established contact with the family of the victim and are demanding N2 million ransoms for his release.

Ohiri who is a lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry, UNIPORT, was said to have been abducted from his resident in Aluu community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

A source allegedly told Vanguard that the yet to be identified gunmen forced their way into Ohiri's compound through the gate. The source noted that the hoodlums arrived the resident of the lecturer on Monday evening.

At press time, the spokesman of UNIPORT, Dr. William Wodi, confirmed the development, but said he is not aware of when he was abducted.

Wodi said, "I have heard about it. His name is Dr. Ohiri and a lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry, UNIPORT. I learnt he was kidnapped at his resident in Aluu".

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni said he had just received a call on the development but said he had not been fully briefed. He promised to communicate Vanguard when he gets fact. He added that would immediately swing into investigations.
